I bought this netbook one week after it came on the market, as soon as I heard the battery had been redesigned with a smaller profile.

I’m in love with the chicklet keyboard. It separates the keys and my hands never slip off of “home row.” The keyboard did take about two days to break in — the keys were unresponsive some of the time — but now everything is very smooth. I’m a speed typist, and I find this keyboard much easier to use than my kids’ 15″ laptop with the traditional flat keyboard, where I always felt like my fingers would lift up the keys or or lose their place.

The battery lasts a VERY long time. The operating system easily accepts all kinds of attachments without a hitch (such as a wired mouse, a wireless mouse, a DVD drive, my e-reader device).

Set up was a breeze and the large hard drive is a boon for loading the various software that I like to use.

For those who care about looks, the Java Brown (chocolate) color is different, unique, and gives a feeling of elegance. My friends really like it.

Is there anything I would change? Well, I’d like it to be about a pound lighter, but that would make it even more expensive. I think the shut down phase takes a little too long, but that’s minor. At least the wake-up from sleep mode is fast.

This is my first netbook, but I’ve been shopping around for quite a while. I’m very satisfied with my purchase.

I do have a little bit of buyer’s remorse with this little guy. After the retail price of the netbook, add the $50.00 for more RAM, and then the $120.00 if you want a clean install / upgrade of windows 7 home premium or $80.00 for just the upgrade, I could have purchased a full blown laptop with 4g of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, and larger display for the same if not cheaper.

I have to remind myself….netbook, netbook, netbook. This is a long term purpose device to have laying around to surf the net, travel with, etc. Not to handle my media. Just do not make the mistake of thinking this will replace a laptop, it definitely does not.

    Pros

    -Small Design

-The White is super classy looking

    -Light Weight

    -Nice Keyboard

    -Nice Track Pad

-Standby USB Port (Will still charge a device if the netbook is in sleep mode)

    -Nice Display

-Nicer, Better Build compared to other netbooks I looked at.

-Battery life is great so far. Had it on for about 5 hours now since I received it yesterday and it is only half way down.

    Cons

-Windows 7 Starter is a absolute JOKE.

-Cannot do “dual display” to extend the desktop to another monitor among many other short comings.

-Has some flex to the screen if you hold it like a book in between your arm carrying it.

-The bottom becomes almost scary hot, be careful if you are using it in bed or on the couch with a blanket in your lap. And men, protect the jewels. The vents are on the bottom and your bedding can cut off the air circulation.

    -Price (As noted above)

-I know people have mentioned that the NB is fast, but I did add additional RAM (2g) total and it isn’t as fast as I would have liked. I hope that it is because of the limitation that Windows 7 Starter has built in and the upgrade to Home Premium will really make it shine.

Overall I am happy with the purchase, but if it wasn’t for the great battery life, I would have purchased a current laptop and not a last gen laptop (aka. netbook). If you want a casual device to surf the net while watching TV this is great. If you want a media power house or something to play DVD’s, get a real pc.

After quite a bit of research on various types of netbooks, I went with the Toshiba NB305. After 2 weeks of use I’m very happy with it.

The most striking feature of the netbook is the chiclet keyboard. It’s fantastic, and much more comfortable than keyboards I’ve tried on other netbooks. The touch pad is also excellent. It is quite large for a netbook and has some nice multi-touch features.

This netbook is extremely lightweight and the battery life is as advertised. For normal usage such as web surfing, listening to music, and word processing, I get 8-10 hours of battery life. Toshiba software makes it easy to alter the power settings, depending on whether you want max battery life or increased processor performance.

The design of this laptop is very appealing. I bought the white version and it looks very nice, mildly contrasting against the matte silver keyboard and stainless strip covering the hinge. Also I very much appreciate that all the surfaces on this laptop are matte, rather than glossy. It keeps it looking nice and clean as opposed to smudgy from fingerprints.

My one gripe about this computer is that it comes with Windows 7 “Starter.” What a crappy operating system. Among (many) other limitations, it restricts the number of applications you can run concurrently and simple features such as changing the background art are unavailable in the starter version. So basically you need to upgrade as soon as you get this computer. That makes the cost of this laptop $500, including the cost of upgrading to usable version of Windows 7. Personally, I would have preferred a full version of Windows XP as in the Toshiba NB205.

Operating system aside, this is an excellent netbook and I would strongly recommend it over the Asus Eee PC 1005HA or Acer 532H netbooks.

After reading review after review, I decided to wait for the NB-305 and finally ordered it with next day shipping. Its main purpose was to take notes in class (I’m a college student). However, I eventually returned it and bought an ASUS EEE PC 1005PE-PU17-BK instead. Here’s my review of this netbook.

    Pros:

    - Style. There is no better looking netbook. I got the java brown one and it really stands out. People commented on how awesome it looked and I was proud to show it off. The hood has raised lines and does not show fingerprints. The silver interior is a matte plastic that also does not show fingerprints.

    - Touchpad is HUGE. Feels great, works great, nice big buttons for left and right. Best I’ve ever used.

    - Screen. Bright and clear. The screen is brighter than the Asus EEE PC 1005PE-PU17-BK

    - Performance. Plays youtube videos without any issues and does not get hot.

    Cons:

    - Keyboard. This is what caused me to return the netbook. The keyboard has chiclet style keys (which I liked), HOWEVER, the keys were too low, unresponsive, and oddly shaped. The ~ button was by the ctrl button, the tab button was a thin sliver and I found myself making a TON of typos. For touch typists, I think this keyboard is a nightmare. The Asus EEE PC 1005PE-PU17-BK’s keyboard is superior BY FAR. Because of the keyboard issue, I could not keep this netbook since its main purpose was to TYPE notes.

    - Battery life. It advertises 11 hours but even on its lowest settings, I could barely squeeze out 6 hours. I was very disappointed.

Because of the poor keyboard, I returned this and purchased an ASUS EEE PC 1005PE-PU17-BK which has more battery life and is $40 cheaper.
