I’m going on vacation in May and I need a good digital camera that won’t drain the batteries real fast when being used.I refuse to take disposable cameras,so please don’t make that as a suggestion.

With rechargeable batteries the Canon A590 IS would be a very good choice for a camera not overly draining battery very quick. There is also a lot to do with this camera besides such as its use of shutter/aperture priority.
you have two options but both of them revolve around Lithium batteries … you can get cameras that have a large-ish rectangular battery that you need to recharge with a charger or you can buy a camera that uses AA batteries. If you go with one of these, then make sure you buy Lithium AA batteries otherwise you will get about 3 photos out of your average alkaline battery. and buying rechargeable AA Lithium batteries can be a better option if you will have access to powerpoints, if not buy 10 or 15 non rechargeables.
I have a casio exilm and the battery seems to last a long time. plus you can get additional batteries on ebay for like $1.50 or something like that plus a small shipping fee. that way you can have more than one battery charged and ready to go when needed. good luck!
The GE cameras are pretty good on batteries. You definitely want to use rechargeable ones.
